Games I am enjoying or enjoyed in the past. Along with related thoughts, because you didn't ask.
I'm playing... Helldivers 2
A masterpiece. Easilly my game of the year for 2024. I enjoyed playing the original helldivers as a local coop shot-em-up. HD2 is a very different kind of game but it captures the original's vibe perfectly. The player avatar being a glass cannon makes for a perfect mix of feeling like a badass and running for dear life.
I'm playing... Factorio (Space Age)
I've sunk some hours into Factorio, and compared to the megabase streamers I've merely dipped a toe in. Still, I love the game: it's simplistic programming with fun constraints and critters that come and wreck your shit.
I'm playing... Ember Knights
A fun little item! A multiplayer roguelite with a fair batch of unlocks. It lacks the exquisite polish of Hades, but still good fun.
I'm playing... D&D 5e
Or maybe One D&D? I don't know, most of our campaigns predate the new rulesets but we liked them so we half-migrated... good fun, rules are weird but a huge improvement compared to 2e which was the last time I played.
I also consume content about DC20, the whole 4-actions round is super interesting, but there just isn't enough there to make a jump.
I loved... Satellite Reign
well, really I loved Syndicate and Syndicate Wars, I still remember seeing the old Bullfrog logo drawn on-screen by the 'laser display'. SR does a great job of bringing back the cyberpunk corporate-dystopia vibe with real-time-tactics gunfights. If anything its flaws only further enhanced my nostalgic love.
I was a backer too: I named a lot of things in the city, but my favorite was the Banach-Tarski cloning facility, keep an eye out for it ❤️
